June 27-28,2009

As we were leaving the Amazon basin, we enjoyed a beautiful sunrise.

We flew back to Lima and arrived in the afternoon. It was great to take a hot shower. That night we went to dinner with Bob and Marina at Rafael's. This was a fantastic restaurant with wonderful seafood.

The next day we took a bike tour of Lima. Here is Colleen getting ready:

We biked through different parks on our way downtown. Here is an olive tree park. This is a press that they used to use to make olive oil.

We biked to downtown Lima. Lima is very much under construction. In the 80s and 90s no one went downtown due to terrorism. The city is now rebuilding. There were many police and tourists in the area. We biked to the Convent of San Francisco. This is where we took a tour of the catacombs under the church. There are nearly 30,000 people buried under the church. The tour was great.

In the main square, we saw the changing of the guards. It was a beautiful ceremony.

After our bike tour, we watched the USA vs. Brazil soccer game. We found a true "football" bar with all soccer decorations. Alan loved it. Here he is with a statue of Pele.
